First Time Set Up (Per BeaconLearning Course)
Each Class Session
Troubleshooting:
- Log in to BeaconLearning and go to your course that you want to record a lecture for
- Turn on Editing
- Add a BigBlueButton Activity (this is where you’ll record your class)
- Click Add Activity or resource and chose “BigBlueButtonBN” activity
- For Virtual Classroom Name, title it something like “Lectures”
- Leave the schedule boxes unchecked
- Check the box for Recording
- In the description, enter “Lecture Recordings”
- Set the class duration (for a 50 minute class, feel free to choose 1 hour)
- Hit Save and Return to Course
- Add a Recordings Resource (this is where students will watch the recordings)
- Click Add Activity or resource and chose “RecordingsBN” activity
- In the recordings name, enter something along the lines of “Recorded Lectures”
- Hit Save and Return to Course
Each Class Session
- Log in to the classroom desktop
- Log in to BeaconLearning and go to your course that you want to record a lecture for
- Click on your “Lectures” BigBlueButtonBN activity that you added to your class earlier
- The virtual classroom will open
- Chose to join via microphone
- When prompted, chose Share Selected Device to allow access to the microphone
- At the Audio Test box, chose yes, you hear audio
- Click Share Webcam at the top left
- Click Allow
- At the webcam preview, chose Start Sharing
- When your webcam appears at the bottom left and you are ready to begin class, click start recording on the top left
- Confirm that you’d like to start
- Minimize BigBlueButton and other tools, open your powerpoint, and teach your class as you usually would. Do not close the BigBlueButton window or your recording will be stopped.
- When you’re done, click the recording button to stop the recording.
Troubleshooting:
- Echo: Turn down classroom audio. If you need to audio up, go to the bigbluebutton window and mute the microphone (top left, microphone symbol). Remember to unmute yourself.
