Frequently Asked Question
In your course, navigate to "Gradebook setup" in your Administration block. At the bottom of this page you'll see two options "Add grade item" and "Add category." Here's how you can use both of those:
Manual Grade Item
You may want to enter in a grade in the gradebook, which does not have a BeaconLearning activity associated with it. For example, you may have an in-class quiz or assignment.
- Click "add grade item" at the bottom of the gradebook setup page
- Give your manual grade item a name - "Week 2 in-class quiz" for example
- Enter the maximum number of points possible in "Maximum grade"
- Click "Save changes"
To enter grade for this assignment, you can use the "Single view" or the "Grader report" view both under the "View" tab.
Categories
Gradebook categories are a great way to organize your grades. They act as folders to group like assignments. These should line up with your syllabus.
- Click "Add category" at the bottom of the gradebook setup page
- Enter the name of your category - "Discussion" or "Complete Assignments" for example
- Click "Save changes"
To move your graded assignments/activities into these categories use the far right "Select" checkboxes in the gradebook setup view, and then scroll to the bottom of the page and select your category under "Move selected items to."
